A Letter of Support
Four years ago, when Kevin Quaranta was first running for Bedford Town Justice, he promised to make the workings of the court more accessible to local youth interested in learning about the justice system. Indeed, when elected, one of the things he did was develop a student intern program. This is a wonderful program that high school students should explore. My son, while in high school, was fortunate enough to have been a Bedford Court intern. More than just being something attractive to include on college applications, this proved to be a practical and eye-opening experience for my son. As an intern, he sat beside the judge’s bench during court proceedings and observed first-hand how each side presented a case. He heard conferences between the lawyers and the judge and saw how cases were disposed of. Judges Quaranta and Banks often explained the reasoning behind their decisions to the interns. This is a meaningful experience that many lawyers don’t enjoy until they actually start working professionally. Interns are exposed to criminal, civil, and traffic court cases. They see how attorneys, police officers, judges, court clerks, witnesses, plaintiffs, and defendants all play a role in the judicial process.
I first met Judge Quaranta when we both attended Fordham University many years ago. He is a man of integrity who is not afraid to work hard and develop new ideas. I hope everyone will continue to support the internship program and vote to re-elect Judge Quaranta on November 6.
Sincerely,
Debra Still
