Kevin QuarantaBedford Justice |
To the Editor:
I have known Town Judge Kevin Quaranta since our Fordham Prep days,a Junior when I was a freshman he gratuitously took on the role as an informal mentor always ready to advise when needed for academics or the athletic field. I am a commercial litigator and familar with Kevin's practice of law and his legal acumen since we both sometimes practice in the same legal arena. His professional reputation is stellar as borne witness by his recent installation as President of the Bronx County Bar Association which recognized both his legal ability and his administrative talent in electing him to lead that organization.
At the dinner when he was formally installed it was noteworthy that a large number of both Supreme Court and Appellate Division Justices were in attendance which speaks volumns to his stature in the legal community. Kevin is also involved in an extraordinary number of charitable and civic organizations, coaches Little League and is active in St. Patrick's Church. Aside from all of this,he has served our Town as one of the two Judges in an exemplary fashion. He has a firm, yet fair Judicial temperment, moving his calender and cases efficiently but never sacrificing Justice to mere expedition. More importantly we must remember that a Judicial position is not a "political"choice, there is no Republican or Democratic way to rule in a case, all judges must pay homage to our common law tradition of precedent and the rule of law.
Can anyone claim Kevin has not faithfully and fairly adjudicated the disputes before him in a fair and unbiased manner. None of his Judicial rulings have been reversed on appeal during his tenure on the Bench. He has stremlined the court calender and has no backlog, on what objective criteria can one fault his performance? President Truman said all politics are local, in a small Town like Bedford all politics are personal, as a registered republican ,with no involvment in party politics I support Kevin's reelection because he is honest, fair and intelligent, attributes which serve him well on the bench.
